Two Obuasi communities to get portable water

Obuasi, Nov. 26, GNA – Mr John Alexander Ackon, the Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive, has cut the sod for the commencement of a water project for Sampsonkrom and Bossman, all suburbs of Obuasi.

The projects which would cost GH¢48,000.00 is being funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Municipal Assembly.

The municipality qualified for the funding due to its sister-cities relations with Riverside City in California, USA as well as satisfying other related conditions.

The foundation’s support is to help improve water, sanitation and health in the municipality under its African Urban Poverty Alleviation Project (AUPAP).

Mr Ackon said in striving to reach the middle income status, efforts must be made to improve communities’ access to portable water, health and improved sanitation.

He appealed to the communities to provide congenial environment that would enable the Champion Man Company Ltd, the contractors to complete the projects on schedule.

Mr Ackon called for the sustenance of the projects by urging the people to maintain the facilities when completed.

Commending the Obuasi-Riverside Sister Cities relations, the Municipal Chief Executive hoped the initiative would help promote water, sanitation and good health in the municipality.

Mr Daniel Amankwaah, the consultant to the projects said five stand pipes each would be provided at the water drawing source.

He said the projects would be completed within three months and that he was hopeful the contractor would deliver a quality job.
