Man Remanded For Allegedly Murdering His Eight-Month Baby

The Apam District Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday remanded a 21-year old unemployed man of the town in police custody for murdering his eight-month old baby.

The plea of Bismark Arthur was not taken and the court ordered him to re-appear on December 5.Police Chief Inspector Peter Horatio Mensah, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Mr Charles Wiafe, that since the birth of the baby, Arthur had not been giving money for the upkeep of the baby to Madam Efua Okotah, who was caring for the baby.

The prosecution said, therefore, on October 24, Madam Okotah became infuriated, rushed to the house Arthur, and dumped the baby on him with the hope that he would return the boy later with some money.

Chief Inspector Mensah said the accused, however, failed to return the child so the next day the complainant went to him again for the child.

The prosecution said Arthur told Madam Okotah that he had sent the baby to his sister in Winneba. Not satisfied with the response, she persisted in her demand and after several attempts and those of the family of Arthur had failed, Madam Okotah reported the matter to the Apam Police on November 11 and he was arrested.

Chief Inspector Mensah said in his caution statement, the accused told the police that the baby boy died the same night that he was dumped on him and had since been buried at the Apam Beach.
