Teachers and parents of the Asuboni Rail Primary and JSS in the Kwahu South District of the Eastern Region have passionately appealed to the Ministry of Education, Kwahu South District Assembly, the Member of Parliament for Nkawkaw, groups and individuals, especially old students of the school, to assist the school immediately before it collapses.
According to them, the buildings of both the Primary and JSS have deteriorated so much that they have become very dangerous for both teachers and the school children to stay in for classes.
In an interview with Chronicle, the Assistant Headmaster of the JSS, Mr.
Bright Oppong Moses, said the roofs of Primary 5 and 6 building were ripped off by rainstorm over eight years ago and all appeals to the authorities and individuals have not yielded any fruitful results which has left the building still un-roofed.
At the moment, the building is almost collapsing due to persistent rains over the years.
He said the situation has forced the school authorities to share the children in two classrooms with others and this has made the classrooms too crowdy.
Oppong said the situation has compelled many parents to withdraw their wards from the school to other schools.
He, however, commended the Kwahu South District Assembly and the district’s Ghana Education Service and individuals, such as one Mr. Twum Barimah of Accra, who responded positively to their call when the roof of the JSS too was ripped off by rainstorm.
Oppong said they gave the school roofing sheets and money which helped them to roof part of the building.
The assistant headmaster said the rest of the JSS building is still un-roofed and stands the danger of collapsing, if nothing is done to it immediately.
He said the school needs roofing sheets, cement and furniture to enable it rehabilitate the building.
On his part, the president of Asuboni Rail Catholic Church, Mr. E.O. Asane, said the school has produced many individuals who are now contributing their quota to the national development.
He, therefore, urged all to assist the school to stand on its feet.
He was not happy that when the MP for Nkawkaw, Hon. Kwabena Adusah Okerchiri, donated some building items to the town for rehabilitation of the school, those who received them sent the items to other schools, with the Catholic school, getting the lion’s share.
He pleaded with the authorities to treat all schools equally since they are all striving to produce future leaders to steer the affairs of the nation.
