FWSC says payment of October salaries for health workers to delay

Accra, Nov. 1, GNA – The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) says the the payment of October 2011 salaries for employees in the health sector has been delayed “slightly because of ongoing works to migrate them onto the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS)”.

A statement signed by the Head of Legal Services of the Commission, Augustine Ahamey, explained that the health sector workers will be paid on the new salary structure by November 11, 2011.

The Commission has been working with the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) to complete the migration exercise and off-load data on the affected employees onto the payroll at CAGD.

“It should be noted, however, that in view of the on-going compulsory arbitration proceedings between the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) at the National Labour Commission, doctors working in the public sector would be paid their old salaries within this week pending their migration onto the SSSS,” the statement added.

The statement encouraged health sector workers to report any concerns they may have upon migration onto the new salary structure to the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission for prompt resolution.
