National Union of Ghana Students commends President

The University for Development Studies (UDS) branch of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has commended the President, Mr. John A. Kufuor, for his timely intervention in the nullification of sanctions imposed on nine students of the University of Cape Coast (UCC).

In a release on Friday, the branch president, Mr Sayeed Ahmed Taqi-Ud-Deen said, “we are highly elated on receiving news that the sanctions imposed on the nine students of the UCC have been lifted by the university authorities”.

The students were sanctioned in connection with the 31st March demonstration by the UCC students against the introduction of the new grading system.

The demonstration coincided with 31st congregation, which was disrupted.

The students also expressed gratitude to the Chancellor of the UCC, the Chairman of the University Council and the Academic Board for the matured manner they resolved the issue.

By this action, they have demonstrated that the grievances of students could always be resolved amicably through dialogue and diplomacy.

The students called on the Ministry of Education, the National Council for Tertiary Education and the NUGS to negotiate with the UCC authorities to find a lasting solution to the grading system.
