GMA Prez Should Resign – KSM

Ghana’s acclaimed Lord of Satire and host of ‘Thank God Its Friday’ on Metro TV, Kweku Sintim Misa, affectionately called KSM, is demanding the immediate resignation of the president of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr. Emmanuel Adom Winful, following what he describes as his “disgusting” comments.

KSM says he cannot come to terms with the fact that a medical practitioner who has taken the Hippocratic Oath could issue directives to members of his association not to attend to even emergency cases simply because their demands have not been met by government.

Dr. Emmanuel Adom Winful, following a strike action embarked on by the GMA some nine (9) days ago, is said to have asked striking doctors to “step-up their industrial action by not attending to emergencies.”

The GMA, on Saturday 8th October, declared an indefinite strike action until their grievances are resolved following their migration onto the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS).

Speaking in an interview on Radio Gold, the Chief Executive Officer of Sapphire Ghana Limited said inasmuch as doctor’s have a right to demand their due, it should never be at the detriment of other members of society.

“…under no circumstances should a doctor compromise human life; under no circumstance… I believe that some of the statements made by the head of the profession is so disgusting and he needs to resign. Sure they need to demand for what is due them but they don’t have the right to sacrifice human life. The innocent ones are being sacrificed for this course and I don’t think it is right. How can he say emergency services should be withdrawn? Ei!!A doctor? I respect doctors and I am not against them being paid well. But innocent lives should not be compromised. Doctors are not the only ones suffering…he (Dr. Emmanuel Adom Winful) should step back…,” he said.
