Work on drainage system at Kumasi New-Zongo progresses

Kumasi, Oct. 9, GNA – Work on the reconstruction of a drainage system at New-Zongo in Kumasi is to be completed December this year, Mr Theodore Quaye, the Metropolitan Roads Engineer, has stated.

He said the Department of Urban Roads (DUR), which was undertaking the project had recently contracted some construction firms to allow for work to progress steadily in order to meet the schedule date.

The government-sponsored project is about 75 per cent completed and geared towards improving sanitation in the area.

Mr Quaye indicated that much of the work to be done involved the fixing of culverts as the expansion works and the laying of pipes were almost complete.

He was briefing Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawasi on Sunday when the latter inspected the progress of work on the project.

Mr Quaye appealed to residents, particularly drivers and transport operators for the inconvenience caused as a result of the project, saying efforts had been stepped up to complete it soon to for community to benefit.

Alhaji Mubarak commended the DUR for demonstrating a keen interest in the project, saying it was his hope that sanitation in the area would improve tremendously.

He entreated the residents to maintain good hygienic practices to help to curb communicable diseases.
