School children in Central Region get free school uniforms

Anomabo (C/R), Oct 10, GNA – The government has supplied over 60,000 school uniforms free of charge to school children in the Central Region, Mrs Ama Benyiwa-Doe, the Central Regional Minister, has said.

Speaking at the celebration of Okyir Festival of the chiefs and people of Anomabo at the weekend, she appealed parents to take advantage of the government’s interventions to enrol their children in school.

The Regional Minister said the only legacy parents could bequeath to their children was education.

She expressed concern about the lackadaisical attitude of some youth towards development of their communities and urged chiefs, queens and assembly members to assign the youth special responsibilities during festivals. Mrs Denyiwa Doe said the youth should not use festivals for only merry making at drinking bars and dance and concert halls at the expense of development projects.

She appealed to all qualified people to register when the voters’ register is opened and urged politicians to be circumspect about what they say or do before, during and after next year’s election in order not to jeopardise the peace prevailing in the nation. “Let us not sacrifice the peace on the altar of political expediency,” she said.

Mr Henry Kweku Hayfron, the Mfantseman Municipal Chief Executive, said some projects had been executed in the town and these include a six-unit classroom block for the Kwegyir Aggrey Senior High School, a bus for the School and a two-storey dormitory block for the School. He said the town would soon get a Fisheries College to train fishermen and the youth in modern fishing methods. Mr Hayfron said apart from the Local Enterprises and Skills Development Programme (LESDEP) that the government had rolled out for the youth another programme, Youth in Entrepreneurial Skills, was underway to train the youth in acquiring skills. Nana Egyir Aggrey I, Mpuntuhen of Anomabo, said there was a plan to put up a Nurses and Midwifery Training College in the town.
