Teachers call for payment of salaries

Wa, Oct. 8, GNA – A group known as the Coalition of Concerned Teachers in the Upper West Region has called on the government to pay the salaries of newly trained teachers by the end of October.

The group said it was unfortunate that for the past 13 months the 2010 batch of trained teachers had not been paid their salaries and this was affecting their work in the classrooms.

The group made the call in a statement read by their spokesperson, Mr Khalid Mohammed at a press conference in Wa on Thursday.

They said it was untrue that they had been paid adding that they were using the press conference to clear the air on that concern.

They said in an attempt to find a solution to their plight, they presented a petition seven days ago to their employers informing them of their concerns adding that they would stage a three-day street demonstration if they were not paid the monies by the end of October.

They also promised to exhaust all channels in order address the situation and called on the entire year groups nationwide to form a formidable unit to fight for their common interests.
