Road crash victims urged drivers to observe road regulations

Accra, Oct. 4, GNA – Mr Nicholas Nimo, President of CECON, an NGO formed by road crash victims to educate drivers and passengers on the effects of accidents, has appealed to drivers to observe road regulations t= o avoid carnage on the road.

Mr Nimo made the appeal at a workshop organised for drivers and passengers to educate them on the need to help save lives as well as deliberate on issues confronting them in Accra on Monday. The workshop organised in collaboration with the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) was to sensitise drivers on the need to avoid drinking, making and receiving telephone calls and unnecessary overtaking when driving.

Mr Nimo noted that the major causes of road crashes in the country wer= e drivers and passengers who failed to observe road regulations, because road safety was a shared and collective responsibility of all and sundry. Mr Reuben Adjetey, Planning Officer, NRSC called on drivers to refrain from using duplicate driving licenses but endeavour to carry the original. He said it was against the Driver and Vehicle License Authority (DVLA) for drivers to duplicate their licences and the culprits should be prosecuted.

Mr Adjetey explained that a good driver was someone who had undergone thorough driving examination and acquired license issued by the DVLA. He advised drivers of private cars, ambulances carrying corpses and wedding couples to refrain from tooting their horns indiscriminately. The drivers pledged to obey the rules, regulations to maintain discipline on the road.

They appealed for education on road signs.
