Adzaho must step down – Group

Former Deputy Minority Leader, Edward Doe Adzaho is fighting for what one critic called “survival” after some party executives intensified calls to end the First Deputy Speaker’s lawmaking career.

In a recent statement released to the media, some two individuals – one Francis Tengey and Samuel H. Ahiave — who claimed to be leading members of the NDC in the Ave-Avenor Constituency posed a question: “Why, does he (Doe Adzaho) think he is the only qualified and capable person in Akatsi District who should represent us throughout his lifetime? For people in the district this desire or behaviour on his part smacks of greed and selfishness. ”

Francis Tengey, who is said to be a former Chairman of the NDC in the Avenor-Ave Constituency, has over the last few months made public statements, calling on Doe Adzaho not to seek re-election.

He has claimed that an overwhelming number of Adzaho’s constituents believe the MP had done his bit and that it was time to give another person a chance.

He also claimed that the First Deputy Speaker had pledged in 2008 not to seek re-election if he was allowed to contest for the fifth and last time, adding that moves by the MP to seek re-election in 2012 violate his own pledge – a charge Doe Adzaho has denied.

But, a number of youth groups from the Ave-Avenor Constituency have since made public comments in support of the MP’s intended re-election bid.

One such group is the Ave-Avenor Youth League, which said recently: “We will do everything possible within the laws of the land to ensure that Hon Doe Adzaho is re-elected to continue serving not only Ave-Avenor and Ghana but also Africa and indeed the world at large. ”
