The failure to pay a debt of GH¢150 for a gun he bought, has resulted in the death of a farmer.
Sampson Bugri was allegedly shot dead last Thursday, by a colleague farmer for failing to settle the debt.
The incident, which occurred at Kofori, a farming community near Gambaga in the West Mamprusi district of the Northern Region, led to riots which resulted in the burning down of eight compound houses.
The suspect, Kwame Bilagitim, is being held in police custody at Gambaga, for questioning.
According to the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Ebenezer Tetteh, Bugri bought a shotgun from Bilagitim for GH¢200 and paid GH¢50 as deposit.
His failure to pay the rest of the money led to differences between them. Last Thursday, Bilagitim confronted Bugri and during the misunderstanding, he pulled out a gun and shot Bugri after which he hid the body in the bush and fled the community.
Chief Inspector Tetteh said police, however, arrested him when he sneaked back to the village on Saturday.
