Bawku has no adequate teachers for this academic year

Bawku (U/E), Sept. 20, GNA – The Bawku Municipality has not got adequate number of teachers for the 2011- 2012 academic year due to fear of instability in the area.

Most of the teachers who were in the area had either been transferred or had vacated their post for security reasons and the few remaining are also threatening to leave if nothing was done by the Municipal Educational Directorate to beef up their number.

This came out during a tour of some schools in the municipality on Tuesday by a seven- member team made up of the Municipal Education Directorate and the Municipal Assembly.

Madam Mumuni Zenabu Bendaye, the Headteacher for Kpalugu Primary school, said there were no teachers and this had discouraged many parents from enrolling their children in schools in her community.

She said the school was also lacking class room accommodation and furniture.

At Agoli Primary School the head teacher, Mr Paul Ayaamba Asaa, said the school had a high record of enrollment but as a result of the conflict in the area most teachers had left.

At Badore, a farming community near Kulungungu, school children could not go to school as it had rained and the place was too muddy. The community is surrounded by the White Volta and when it rains teachers and school children do not go to school.

Mr Benedict Badilebit Yimdol, Bawku Municipal Director of Education, expressed worry over the issue and said the Directorate had taken note of the challenges and was putting in measures to save the situation.
