Seminar on HIV and AIDS ends at Asikuma

Humanitarian Foundation, a non-governmental organisation in collaboration with Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District Assembly have ended a two-day seminar for 55 peer educators on HIV and AIDS.

The seminar, which was sponsored by the Ghana AIDS Commission, attracted the participants who were made up of two pupils each from the 20 basic schools in the area.

They were taken through topics such as sexually transmitted diseases, the role of a peer educator, basic facts about HIV and AIDS and how to document and give feedback on peers.

Mr Richard D. Dela, Deputy District Co-ordinating Director and District Monitoring and Evaluation Focal Person for HIV and AIDS, asked the participants to transmit the knowledge and skills they have acquired to their colleagues as well as their family members.

He asked the youth to avoid immoral acts that lead to unwanted pregnancies and the spread of HIV and AIDS and other social vices such as drug abuse and viewing of pornographic materials and rather concentrate on their academic pursuit.

Mr Peter Agbogla, Field Co-ordinator of the Foundation also advised the participants to refrain from promiscuous acts that could ruin their lives.
