Mason sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for defilement

A Kumasi Circuit Court has ordered a 36-year-old mason to be held in prison for 25 years in hard labour for defiling a seven-year-old girl.

Kwaku Kyei pleaded guilty to the crime.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Regina Addo-Yobo told the court presided over by Justice D.W.P Amedior that both convict and his victim live at Akyeremade near Kumasi.

The young girl has from time to time been running errands for Kyei and he took advantage of this to abuse her, somewhere in February, this year.

The prosecution said the convict warned her never to tell anybody about her painful experience or risk dying.

Some days later her mother detected changes in her gaiety and the way she walked.

She said upon critical examination, the woman discovered rashes and sores all over her vagina.

DSP Addo-Yobo said the victim was therefore sent to the hospital where medical doctors, who treated her, confirmed that she had been defiled.

When questioned, she told everything Kyei forced her to go through.

A formal complaint was made to the Ashanti Regional Police Domestic Violence and Victims’ Support Unit (DOVVSU) and Kyei was arrested.
