Akuapem North District observes My First Day at School”

Akropong, (E/R) Sept. 14 GNA – Mr Benjamin Cronze, District Director of Education for Akuapem North, on Tuesday visited some selected basic schools and interacted with pupils to mark this academic year’s My First Day at School.”

The director, who was accompanied by some officials from the District Education Office, toured eight schools and distributed biscuits, soft drinks, books, pens, pencils and other educational materials to the pupils.

Some of the schools are Abiriw Presbyterian Primary, Akropong Presbyterian Primary, Mamfe Methodist Primary, Okorase District Assembly Primary, Tinkong Methodist Primary and Asesekokor District Assembly Primary Schools.

Speaking to the GNA after the visit, Mr Cronze said he was happy with the attendance on the first day by the pupils and the teachers.

He commended parents for showing interest in their children’s education by bringing them to be registered.

He, however, expressed concern about the falling standard of education in the district in relation with the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and assured that his outfit had put a lot of measures in place to improve the situation.

Mr Cronze said it was unfortunate that the Akuapem area, which was noted for its academic excellence was now going through some challenges in education and appealed to all stakeholders to come on board to help solve the problems.

He attributed part of the problem to lack of commitment on the part of teachers, lack of supervision, and lack of parental control and commitment to the welfare of their children.

Mr Cronze said his outfit had put in place monitoring teams in all the circuits to ensure that proper monitoring and supervision were carried out.

He cautioned that his outfit would not entertain any lackadaisical attitude from any teacher and urged them to work hard to improve the academic standard of the children.
