Vice President cautions against double registration

Kumasi, Sept 11, GNA – Vice President John Dramani Mahama on Sunday warned that anyone caught engaging in double registration in the forthcoming biometric exercise would be prosecuted.

He explained that with the biometric system, registration at different points would expose such people because of their finger prints that would be networked.

Vice President Mahama gave this caution when he addressed the Zongo Youth Association (ZOYA), a Muslim Organization, during their annual durbar of Chiefs in Kumasi.

The durbar attracted all Muslim organizations from and beyond the Ashanti Region.

He advised Muslims to take advantage of various social interventions government was rolling out to better their lot in education and self employment.

Vice President Mahama indicated that Muslims were not born the most deprived people in the county and it was therefore expedient for them to engage in development-oriented programmes.

He particularly advised Muslim scholars to push the girl child education agenda ahead to enable them to harness their potentials of becoming well informed professionals and Technocrats in society.

“Women were not destined to be only housewives. They can also become Lawyers, Engineers, Doctors and professionals that can handle the affairs of the country.”

Vice President Mahama gave the assurance that government would support the Islamic Senior High School at Abrepo Junction in Kumasi to expand its infrastructural facilities.

Doctor Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah, Ashanti Regional Minister, stated that unity was indispensable to national growth and for that matter it was incumbent on all ethnic groups to live co-exit peacefully.

Alhaji Umar Farouk Saeed, Ashanti Regional Head of the Zongo Community, appealed to government to support Muslim communities, particularly, in the areas of education and youth employment.
