KMA to ensure equitable distribution resources

Kumasi, Sept. 8, GNA – Mr Samuel Sarpong, Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), said the Assembly would not discriminate in the allocation of resources as it worked hard to transform the living conditions of residents in the metropolis.

He said in the last three years the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) had mobilized substantial resources to augment its share of the District Assemblies’ Common Fund towards the implementation of projects in the areas of health, education, sanitation, infrastructure development and security.

The MCE called for support and cooperation of the people to enable the assembly to achieve its development agenda. They should also be law-abiding to help restore Kumasi to its former status as the Garden City of West Africa.

Mr Sarpong was interacting with the Kumasi Chapter of the National African Peer Review Mechanism (NAPRM) Governing Council when the Executives paid a courtesy call on him in Kumasi.

He said the decentralization policy sought to meet the aspirations and development needs of the people, and for this reason, the KMA would work assiduously to bring progress to the people.

Mr Sarpong commended the Council for its efforts at fostering good governance and deepening democracy.

The assembly, he said, would partner the Council to promote good governance. Mr Emmanuel Edmund Premoh, Chairperson of the Council, stressed the need to de-politicize development issues in the interest of national progress. He cautioned politicians to also avoid provocative utterances and insults to prevent needless tension.

The Chairperson appealed to the KMA to endeavour to help the Council to secure a permanent office to facilitate its activities.
