A number of commuters on Volta Lake feared dead

Hohoe (V/R), Sept. 7 GNA – A number of people are feared drowned on the Volta Lake at Kpedze in the Volta Region, when a boat conveying them from the Abotoase market to Tato in the Sene District of the Brong Ahafo Region capsized. Two female bodies which were deposited at the Krachi West District Hospital have been identified as Akpalu Agbanavi and Amey Gabianu.

Mr Henry Ametefee, Regional Co-ordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation who confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency, said personnel of the Organisation have been dispatched to assess the situation in order to offer the needed assistance.

Overloading of the boats have been identified as a major cause of accidents on the lake, which had claimed many lives.
