Ghanaians urged to appreciate government’s efforts

Awutu Bereku (C/R), Sept 6, GNA – The Central Regional Minister, Mrs Ama Benyiwa Doe, has appealed to Ghanaians to appreciate efforts being made by the government to develop the country.

She said the government had been able to undertake projects including provision of new school buildings, roads and expansion of the school feeding programme.

Others are free supply of school uniforms and books, and electricity to communities.

Mrs Benyiwa Doe said this at a durbar to mark the Awobia Festival of the chief and people of Awutu at Awutu Bereku.

The festival is celebration by the people to hoot at hunger and for a bumper harvest of grains.

It was under the theme ‘New Step Towards progress and development’.

She said people should not allow themselves to be misled by a few people adding, “we must do everything possible to maintain the peaceful atmosphere currently in the country.”

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Madam Hannah Tetteh, appealed to the chiefs and land owners to reserve some of their land for the establishment of industries.

Abokuade Wyettey Agyemang Otabil III, Paramount chief of Awutu traditional Area, said only 12 of 69 public schools in the district are benefiting from the school feeding programme.

He appealed for an increase in the number of beneficiary schools to encourage parents to send their children to school.

Dasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII, President of the Central Regional House of Chiefs who chaired the durbar, urged parents to invest in the education of their children instead of in things that would not bring progress to their lives.
