Accra, Aug. 23, GNA – Nii Armah Ashietey, Greater Accra Regional Minister, on Tuesday called on the chiefs and people of Prampram and Old Ningo Traditional Areas to use the Homowo celebrations to end the rampant chieftaincy disputes in Ga Dangme. He noted that chieftaincy disputes had affected socio-economic development in the area.
Nii Ashietey made the call when presenting GH¢2,000, five cartons of soft drinks, five cartons of beer, and five bottles of schnapps separately to the chiefs and people of Prampram and Ningo Traditional Areas in the Dangme West District as part of government’s support towards the Homowo celebrations.
He urged them to unite and called on the Ga Traditional Council and the National House of Chiefs to accelerate the process of settling chieftaincy disputes in the area for peace to prevail. Mr Enoch Teye Mensah, Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, commended government for assisting the community to take over a private Senior High School to be developed into a public and first Senior High School in the area.
He noted that due to illegal sale of land and land litigation in the community they were unable to acquire land to build a school and appealed to the land owners to endeavour to preserve land for posterity.
Mr Mensah, who is also Minister of Employment and Social Welfare, urged the chiefs to be committed to end the chieftaincy disputes and concentrate on developmental issues in the community. Nene Atsure Bonta III, Mankralo of Prampram Traditional Area receiving the items expressed appreciation to the Government for the support and pledged to institute measures to unite to curtail the chieftaincy disputes.
Nene Kanor Atiapah III, Acting President of Ningo Traditional Council also expressed gratitude to government for the immense support over the years towards Homowo celebrations.
