Man remanded for attempted car snatching

Fiapre, Aug 19, GNA – A circuit court at Fiapre near Sunyani has remanded a 19-year-old school dropout into prison custody for attempting to snatch a taxi cab at Techiman in the Brong- Ahafo Region.

The plea of Alhassan Abdulai, facing a charge of attempted robbery, was not taken and will reappear on August 24.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Alex Ofosu told the court presided over by Mr. Benjamin Yaw Osei that on August 9, the accused approached the driver of the taxi at the Techiman taxi station at about 2300 hours and asked him to take him to Wenchi for a fare of GHC10.00

He said on the way the accused asked the driver to stop but the driver ignored him. The accused removed pepper powder from a polythene bag, threw it into the driver’s eyes and pushed him out of the car.

He said accused sat behind the steering wheel to drive away the vehicle but the driver’s shout for help attracted people who arrested the accused person and handed him over to the police.
