Police Arrest two in Bawku for Narcotic drugs and ammunition

Bolgatanga, Aug. 18, GNA – Two persons, Lukeman Asaguga, 22-year-old student and Abdulai Awidnaba, 62, were on Wednesday remanded in Police Custody by the Bolgatanga Circuit Court for possessing seeds suspected to be those of Indian hemp and a quantity of ammunition.

The ammunition comprised 12 rounds of 9mm pistol ammunition, 21 rounds of 91Mark Four’ ammunition, 78 rounds of G3 ammunition, 31 rounds of M16 ammunitions, and 892 rounds of AK 47 assault rifle. Presenting the case in court, Chief Inspector of Police Azalekor Quarshie said the accused, Lukeman Asaguba had been on the police wanted list for a murder case at Garu. He said acting upon a tip off, the police led by ACP Kweku Buadu and District Superintendent of Police(DSP) Adams Seidu, arrested Lukeman at 03.45 hours at Sabon Gare in the Bawku Municipality. He said when Lukeman’s room was searched, a bag containing seeds suspected to be Indian hemp was found.

He said another search in the same house where Abdulai Awidnaba lived, led to the recovery of the ammunition in the ceiling of his room which he claimed ownership. The court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Sunu, adjourned sitting to August 31, 2011, to allow for further investigations into the case.
