GJA awards scheduled for Friday, September 9

Accra, Aug. 17, GNA – The National Executive Committee of Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) on Wednesday announced that the 16th GJA Awards, would now take place on Friday, September 9, at the Banquet Hall, State House, in Accra.

A statement issued in Accra by Mr Bright Blewu, General Secretary said the ceremony was originally scheduled for Saturday, August 20, but had to be postponed due to circumstances beyond their control. It said award winners, both honorary and in the competitive division would be announced on Monday, September 5. The theme for the Awards is: 93Giving Impetus to Democracy and Development: the Role of Investigative Journalism”. As part of the countdown to the event, South Africa’s crack investigative journalist Janine Lazarus will hold a day’s workshop on investigative journalism at Novotel Hotel, Accra on Monday, August 22. The management of Accra Brewery Limited (ABL), a major sponsor of the event will foot bills for the workshop.

The statement said there would also be a forum at the Ghana International Press Centre on how to stem the tide of the politics of insults in the Ghanaian media.

“The date for that event will be announced later,” it added.
