Journalists Undergo Training In Desktop Publishing

Legon (GAR), June 23, – A five-day training workshop in Desktop Publishing for media practitioners opened at Legon today. The 25 practitioners, drawn from state and private media, would be taken through Typography, Layout, Recreating Logos, and Text Design. It is being organised jointly by the European Union, the School of Communication Studies and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES) under their continuing education for journalists programme. Professor James R. Anquandah, Dean, Faculty of Social Studies, said in an extremely dynamic and fast moving world, media practitioners need to be equipped with resources and skills for publishing. He said the faculty and many others owe a special gratitude to FES; ”they have given us a place in their hearts”. Prof Anquandah said the foundation has played a unique role in conceptualising developmental programmes for such departments as Political Science and the School of Communication Studies and suggested that the university needs to find a way of recognising the FES as a special partner. Miss Marian Adubofour, Programme Co-ordinator of FES, said the workshop, one of the many organized during the year, demonstrates a commitment to development. She said the course would help improve the skills of participants.
