Husbands urged to support wives during pregnancy

Sunyani,(B/A),Aug.9,Space FM-The Principal Midwife at the Florence Maternity Home in Sunyani, Mrs. Martha Asante, has called on husbands to encourage their wives to seek proper care during and immediately after pregnancy to avoid complications.

Mrs. Asante also urged husbands to adequately support their wives in certain household chores during pregnancy and immediately after giving birth to save guard their health.

The Principal Midwife gave the advice in an exclusive interaction with Space FM in Sunyani on Tuesday.

She explained that proper ante-natal and post natal care help nursing mothers during pregnancy and after delivery to maintain good health and also prevent the babies from infections and diseases.

Mrs. Asante appealed to husbands to show compassion to their wives by accompanying them to the clinic, since that act alone, to a large extent, serves as a psychological booster for women and also contribute to the success of the marriage.

She cautioned pregnant women against patronizing herbal medicines because the practice could lead to complications for both mother and child.

The principal midwife called on health authorities and other stakeholders to deepen the campaign to educate pregnant women on patronizing ante-natal and post natal clinics.

She asked husbands to ensure that their wives take all drugs prescribed for them, to keep both mother and child in good health.

Mrs. Asante charged pregnant women to pay particular attention to the treatment of malaria since the disease is one of the fastest killing diseases.

She advised pregnant women to sleep in treated mosquito net to avoid contracting malaria.

Mrs. Asante entreated pregnant women to constantly visit health facilities to check their health status before and after pregnancy.
