President urges churches to maintain nation’s moral sanctity

Accra, Aug 5, GNA – President John Atta Mills on Friday said the clerg= y should not be daunted by the task of maintaining the moral sanctity of the society despite negative behavior by some of their members. He said the Church still remained a strong part in the moral education and foundations of the society and urged the Clergy to continue to lead the flock and the nation without lowering standards.

President Mills said this when a delegation from the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana, led by Rt Rev Fracncis Amenu, the Moderater, paid a courtesy call on him at the Castle, Osu. The call was to formally invite the President to the Third Greneral Assembly of the Church scheduled for Ho Kpodzie, from August 17 that would bring delegates from Germany, Togo and Ghana. President Mills expressed the nation’s appreciation to the EP Church f= or its initiative in fulfilling the social and spiritual needs of the people and said the church/state collaboration in the national development was essential.

President Mills commended the EP Church for doing so well and restated the government’s determination to team up with the religious community in addressing the needs of the country and building a better society.

He said his Administration would join hands with the church to ensure a Better Ghana and 93the EP Church in giving praise and thanks to our Maker.= ” The Rt Rev Amenu said the church would support the government to implement its programmes and appealed for support for the development of infrastructure for the EP University.
