Sunyani reviews its performance in health

Sunyani, July 27, GNA – The Sunyani Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Health Service recorded 3,225 cases of diarrhea and 57,672 cases of malaria from January to June this year.

The Directorate’s general Out Patient Department (OPD) cases saw an increment from 125,075 in 2010 to 140,112 in 2011, a 10.7 percent increase.

It further recorded 3,025 cases of hypertension, 18 cases of tuberculosis whilst 5,379 cases of acute eye problems were treated during the period.

The statistics were contained in a statement signed by Dr. David Agyapong Opare, Municipal Director of Health Service at the Directorate’s 2011 half year meeting and made available to the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani on Tuesday.

It said out of 3,575 pregnant women tested for HIV, 74 of them proved positive.

The statement complained about lack of accommodation for staff of the municipal hospital, stand-by generator as well as poor road from the main entrance of the hospital to the wards.

There are delays in payment of claims from the health insurance scheme.

It commended all the health staff for the good work during the half year and appealed to them to work harder for the rest of the year to achieve remarkable strides.
