Ban on pan latrine usage gaining positive response in New Juaben

Koforidua, July 27, GNA – Mr Bechesani Demuyakor, the New Juaben Municipal Environmental Health Officer, has said the directive to change from pan Latrines to water closets in the municipality had received good response from residents.

He said almost half of the households in the Municipality who hitherto used the pan or pit latrines had changed to using water closets through the help of the Municipal Assembly.

Mr Demuyakor told the GNA in an interview that people who use pan latrines but are willing to change are given Gc100 each to motivate them to undertake the changes without difficulty.

He said the Municipal Assembly was ready to give technical advice to individuals who are willing to change from the pan latrine to water closets.

Mr Demuyakor urged landlords who wish to use water closets to draw their building plans and deliver them to his office for technical advice.

He appealed to households who had not been able to effect the change immediately to make use of the public toilets to prevent any arrests when they are caught using the pan latrines in their homes.

He said the public toilets had been given out to companies to manage and appealed to residents to report unclean public toilets for action to be taken.
