Tarkwa Nsueam Assembly fails to achieve revenue targets

Tarkwa, July 24, GNA- The Tarkwa Nsueam Municipal Assembly struggled to mobilize 2,228,796.96 Ghana cedis out of an estimated figure of 6,853,581.61 Ghana cedis as of 31 May 2011.

Expenditure for the same period was 2,285,837.61 Ghana cedis as against an estimated figure of 6,752,302.41.

Mrs. Christina Kobinah, Municipal Chief Executive, was delivering the sessional address at the second ordinary meeting of the first session of the assembly which was attended by the local Member of Parliament (MP),Mrs. Gifty Kusi, Presiding member, Mr. Moses Ackah, coordinating director, Mr. Kizito Balance, assembly members and heads of departments.

She urged revenue collectors and other personnel in the Finance Department of the assembly to increase their revenue and other levies’ collection to facilitate the rapid development of the municipality.

She asked assembly members to work acidulously in improving the assembly’s present Internally Generated Fund (IGF).

The MCE said the numerous development challenges facing the assembly required an aggressive programme to mobilise enough money to transform the living conditions of the people in the area.

She however warned that if the assembly together with the members fail to work to rake in more IGF, the municipality would run into serious problems when inflows expected from Central Government delay.

Mrs Gifty E. Kusi called on the assembly members to be vigilant in the supervision and monitoring of projects in their electoral areas adding, they should take pragmatic steps to salvage them to justify the huge investment being made in them by the assembly.

She said as principal stakeholders of the communities, they have been given the opportunity to lead and serve with a primary responsibility to ensure proper collaboration with the people to promote peace and development.

She therefore encouraged the assembly members to make good use of all the resources at their disposal to the benefit of the people and be accountable to them as well.
