Rwandan delegation visit Mayor of Accra

Accra, July 20, GNA – Mayor of Accra Alfred Oko Vanderpuije has appealed to technocrats to remain neutral and loyal to the government of the day to help bring development to the doorstep of the people.

“Government would come and go but you would stay. That is why we need to work around the clock to meet the expectation of our people” he told a visiting Rwandan delegation from the Local Government Authority when they paid him a visit to learn and share experiences with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly.

He said it was unfortunate that Africa had accepted mediocrity but it was time for Africa to set high standards and hold themselves in high esteem.

The mayor urged them not to rest on their oars but push their leaders to meet the challenges that confront their people.

Mr Cyrille Turashine, head of the delegation, said they decided to come to Ghana because they came to learn from Ghana before they started their decentralization programme some 10 years ago and deemed it fit to back and learn again on how to deal with the complexities of a growing urban population.

He said members of the delegation were senior technocrats who are in Ghana to learn from strategies to generate revenue, human resource and economic development to enhance local governance in Rwandan.
