Coup Plot? NDC Accuses NPP Of Framing Its Members

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has been accused of planning to frame up some former NDC Ministers of State and functionaries in a coup plot as part of an agenda to destroy the NDC. The NDC says the arrest and detention of four bodyguards of former President Rawlings last Friday, for possessing unlicensed weapons is an alleged plot by the NPP.

The charge against the four, Messrs Anyamu, Budu, Kuntor and Adotey were found to be false. The acting Chairman of the NDC Political Committee, Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu told a press conference that there have been various plots to frame up key NDC functionaries and create unnecessary tension in the country.

“This is a grand desire to ensure the demise of ex-President Rawlings and other NDC functionaries by forcing them to go into exile. Security agencies have been placed on high alert creating unnecessary tension within the security agencies,” he added.

The NDC described comments by Leader of Government Business, J.H. Mensah that the NDC will be dismantled by the time the numerous court cases lined up against some members are over, as evidence of attempts to ensure the demise of the NDC. Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu said the NPP is implementing its strategy, by embarrassing, humiliating and criminalizing the party’s leading members without evidence.
