Dagbon Royals issue Communique after a reconciliation meeting

Yendi (NR), July 19, GNA – Royals of both the Abudu and Andani Gates in the Dagbon conflict have decided that the Mion-Lana Alhassan Abudu Ziblim, who occupies a key position in Dagbon traditional authority, should facilitate a dialogue session involving the two sides.

This was contained in a four-point communiqué issued at the end of a one-day Peace and Reconciliation Consultation session involving the two sides at Yendi, to deliberate on the way forward.

“The move would help to instill confidence in ourselves”, the communiqué said, adding that the discussions would tackle the traditional aspects of the crisis while the government took care of the criminal aspect.

The session was convened by the Catholic Bishop of Yendi, The Most Rev. Vincent Sowah Boi-Nai on July 16, 2011 and centred on how to resolve the crisis in Dagbon and let peace prevail.

“The Mion-Lana should facilitate the process of apology, and this apology should be rendered to those really involved in the crisis. We therefore suggest that the composition of the first group of people who rendered an apology to the late Kuga Na should be changed and broadened,” the communique suggested.

It urged Government, the Yendi Municipal Assembly, NGOs and benevolent organizations involved in finding lasting peace to the Dagbon crisis to console the victims of the 2002 conflict by re-constructing their destroyed houses.

The communique said interactions such as the one convened by Bishop Boi-Nai should be on going and that royals at such meetings should be honest and sincere in their deliberations.

It was signed by Abdulai Mahamadu, Botan-Na who represented Mion-Lana Abudu Dokurugu; Gbungbaliga-Na Bukari H. Alhassan; Tampion-Lana Alhassan Andani; and Kunkon-Lana Ziblim Fusheini.

The other signatories were Kpakpano-Lana Abukari Mahama; Zohe-Na Mahamadu Salifu and Kuga-Na’s Representative, Adam Abdulai.
