Ghana: 51% of urban migrants live in slums

Experts have described urbanisation as a major threat to national development, as more than half of Ghana’s population live in urban areas.

What is more dangerous is that about 51 percent of migrants live in slums and under deplorable conditions.

In response the Ministry for Local Government and Rural Development, in collaboration with cities Alliance has organised an Urban Forum in Accra to raise awareness and stimulate action to address the challenges or urbanisation, such as poor planning and development control.

The Sector Minister, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo said, the forum will create a platform for dialogue between policy makers, implementers and development partners.
