Two pastors, trader in alleged fake currency deal

Accra, July 13, GNA – Two Pastors of the Conquerors Redemption International Church, at Achimota, a suburb of Accra and a trader, alleged to be dealing in fake GHc50 notes, on Tuesday, appeared before an Accra Circuit Court. They are Apostle Richard Kwesi Dwumfuor, Head Pastor, Reverend Isaac Oti Agyemang, a Pastor of the church and Charles Tawiah, aka Yahaya Osman, a petty trader.

The accused persons were charged with two counts of conspiracy to possess fake currencies and possessing fake currencies. The court, presided over by Mr Eric Kyei Baffour, did not take their pleas but released them to assist the Police in investigations to re-appear on July 25.

Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police, (ASP) Annor, told the court that, personnel from the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), on June 28, this year, had information that, some people were in possession of fake GHc50 notes totalling GHc110,000, hidden at the church premises for business transactions.

He said personnel from the BNI on arrival, met the accused in possession of a black laptop bag containing the fake currencies. ASP Annor said the accused were arrested and during interrogation said Apostle Dwumfuor gave the money to them for safe-keeping while he sought for a prospective buyer. He said Apostle Dwumfuor on seeing the personnel took to his heels but was arrested and after investigations charged with the offence.
