Ministry Reacts to Story

The Transport and Communications Ministry has reacted to Public Agenda’s front-page of last week headlined: “Ghana Telecom heads for crash.”

Public Agenda gathered that the Ministry sought to verify from Ghana Telecom officials if the situation was as precarious as the story sought to paint.

The story said that Ghana’s telecommunications industry was heading for collapse if present infrastructure of the main operator – Ghana Telecom is not upgraded as soon as possible.

Some telecommunication engineers the newspaper quoted had argued that the present infrastructure was designed for telephony, but over time, the users of the infrastructure have been changing from telephone users to internet users who spend more time on the lines, thus creating congestion.
