Akim Oda (E/R), July 9, GNA – The Akim Oda Magistrate Court has sentenced a mobile phone technician to a fine of GH¢100.00 for stealing a mobile phone worth GH¢180.00 and an unspecified amount of cash belonging to Mr Effah Aboagye, driver.

Benjamin Affum, 26, who pleaded guilty to stealing was ordered by the Court to pay GH¢300.00 to compensate Mr Aboagye. Affum would go to prison for 12 months in hard labour if he fails to pay the fine.

The Prosecutor, Chief Inspector Adelaide Appiakorang told the Court presided over by Mr Albert Owusu Annor that the complainant lives at Akim Manso, while the convict at resides at Batabi, and that a year ago, the convict went to Manso to find electronic work to do.

She said as a result, Mr Aboagye gave Affum his faulty Nokia Mobile phone and GH¢10.00 for the spare parts to enable him to repair the phone on time, but Affum abandoned the phone and left the town for Accra without Mr Aboagye’s notice.

Chief Inspector Appiakorang said on June 16 this year, at about 2200 hours, Mr Aboagye was driving his commercial vehicle from Akim Oda towards Akim Manso and when he reached Batabi, a passenger stopped him and he realised that it was Affum the accused who joined his mini bus.

Mr Aboagye drove to the Akim Manso Police Station and handed Afful over to the police and upon investigations he was charged with the offence.
