Memorial service in honour of the three murdered judges held in C/C.

Cape Coast, July 1, GNA – A solemn but brief memorial service was held on Thursday at Cape Coast in the Central Region in honour of the three High Court judges who were murdered on June 30 1982.

Members of the judiciary in the Region turned out in their numbers at the 29th anniversary remembrance service held at the Ebenezer Methodist Church at Swido in Cape Coast.

The Cape Coast Diocesan Administrator of the Methodist Church, The Reverend Kodwo Odum who gave delivered a sermon said the murdered judges whom he described as 93diligent” were killed in line of duty.

He noted that despite their brutal murder 29 years ago, “they have left a lasting legacy through their insightful and astute decisions in judging cases,” and entreated all judges not to relent in upholding the truth, honesty and justice at all times.

Prayers were said by The Reverend Kobina Appiah, Minister in charge of the OLA Estate Methodist Church for the departed souls and later gave consolation words to the families of the three judges.

Lawyer Michael Arthur-Dadzie, Cape Coast Regional Secretary of the Ghana Bar Association (GAB), read a brief history on how the three high court judges, Mr. Poku Sarkodie, Mrs. Cecilia Koranteng=96Addow, Mr. Justice Kwadwo Agyei Agyapong and a retired army officer, Major Acquah were abducted at night and murdered in cold blood.

Their bodies were later doused in petrol and burnt beyond recognition, Mr. Arthur-Dadzie added.
