Don’t let drug pushers destroy your future- youth told

Tamale, June 28, GNA – A top official of the Food and Drugs Board (FDB) on Tuesday appealed to the youth not to be influenced by the 93get rich attitude” and allow themselves to be used by drug pushers.

She said they should channel their youthful exuberance into more productive ventures that would not only provide them decent livelihoods but also make them realize their dreams.

Mrs. Akua Owusu Amartey, Acting Deputy Chief Executive of the Food and Drugs Board (FDB), said this at the World Drugs Day celebration in Tamale on Tuesday.

She said to check the drug menace the FDB had increased inter-agency collaboration with all stakeholders involved in the fight against the drug trade and abuse.

The Board is also in the process of recruiting highly trained staff whose conditions of service would be improved to motivate them to fight against the illicit drug trade.

Dr Benjamin Kumbour, the Minister of the Interior, said in an address read on his behalf that the government was committed to resourcing the Narcotics Control Board and all the security agencies to enable them effectively fight against the drug menace in the country.

He said the stability of countries, which are being used as transit points for the drug trade, were being threatened and urged communities, families and civil society organization to join in the fight against the menace.

The Interior Minister commended the media for their constant reportage on the activities of drug pushers in the country which he said had kept the law enforcement agencies on their toes in fighting the drug menace.
