KMA to arrest those who litter the streets

Kumasi, June 27, GNA – The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) on Tuesday said it would arrest and prosecution people who litter the streets and break its environmental sanitation bye-laws. It promised to go after all offenders and bring them to justice. A press statement signed by Mr Godwin Okumah Nyame, Public Relations Officer, said the assembly would deploy its sanitation task force for the job.

They would operate both day and night. It expressed concern about the situation where some residents dumped waste into drains, streams and open spaces, particularly at the Central Business District (CBD) of Adum and said this would no longer be accepted. “The Assembly wants to send a clear message to the perpetrators of s= uch unlawful acts that offenders shall be dealt with in accordance with the law.”

It said the KMA would also step up its public education programmes on sanitation and install litter bins at convenient places. The statement reminded heavy duty drivers that parking, loading and off-loading of goods between 1000 hours and 1800 hours contravened the assembly’s bye-laws and that offenders would be dealt with fully. It appealed to the people co-operate with the assembly to restore sanity.
