Another nail has been hammered into the coffin of NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, with the public revelation that his Special Assistant, Mike Yaw Amfo-Quakyi, once served a jail term for drug trafficking.
The public revelation was made by no less a person than Nana Asante Bediatuo, a chief and a lawyer who is an Akufo-Addo insider.
The revelation followed a publication by the Lens yesterday which asserted that Amfo-Quakyi, who has been penciled down as Chief of Staff in the unlikely event that Akufo-Addo wins the 2012 elections, was busted and jailed for drugs.
Throwing light on the publication, Kobby Fiagbe, Managing Editor of the newspaper argued that Akufo-Addo cannot distance himself from illicit drugs. It was for that reason that Amfo-Quakyi still plays an important role in his campaign team and was with him on his recent journey to Germany.
Nana Asante Bediato, who phoned into Asempa FM’s Eko Si Sen radio programme to ostensibly put a damper on the publication confirmed that Amfo-Quakyi has done time in jail for drug-trafficking but added that the incident took place when the ex-jail bed was just a youth.
Nana Asante-Bediatuo argues further that in any case, Amfo-Quakyi completed his jail term and has left his past behind.
He opined that, that the Special Assistant to the NPP flag bearer has done time in jail for drug-trafficking does not mean he would go back to the world of drugs, citing several men of God who came out of prison to take up the mantle of leading God’s flock.
Daily Post’s archival search reveals that Amfo-Quakyi, an LLB graduate educated in London was once Managing Director of Akufo-Addo’s newspaper, The Statesman.
He was busted for drugs at the Heathrow Airport in the 90s and sentenced to jail.
Another relation of Nana Akufo-Addo, Raymond Amankwah, is currently in jail in Brazil, serving time for trafficking cocaine into that country. He had hitherto served jail term for drug-trafficking. His assets were seized by the state but was virtually returned to him by his brother-in-law, Nana Akufo-Addo, when, he, as Attorney-General, refused to challenge the drug-trafficker’s appeal against the seizure of his assets.
With the NPP flagbearer himself unable to prove that he does not sniff cocaine and smoke wee as has been alleged, many shudder to imagine of an Akufo-Addo Presidency.
Nana Kofi Coomson, an NPP insider who has been a close friend of the NPP flagbearer is on record to have said that based on what he knows of him, he cannot sleep with his eyes closed if he is President of Ghana.
