Allegations of influx of Nigerians in Ghana is exaggerated

Accra, June 23, GNA – Dr Benjamin Kuubuor, the Minister for the Interior, on Wednesday said allegation that Ghana had been inundated with a= n influx of refugees and ex-combatants from the Niger Delta region of Nigeria has been exaggerated.

He said this was as a result of misinformation by some self-styled executive members of the Niger Delta Residents Association all in a bid to attract attention.

Dr Kuubuor said this when he appeared before the Parliament to answer questions.

He said statistics indicate that there are thriving Nigerian communities living in Ghana but most of them are traders and only a small fraction of them are Nigerians from the Niger Delta Region.

Dr Kuubuor said the Intelligence Unit of the Ghana Immigration Service had conducted investigations into the alleged influx of refugees an= d ex-combatants of the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria into the country following media publications.
