Workshop organised for members of Nkoranza North Assembly

Busunya (B/A), June 20, GNA – Mr Kwadwo Agyei-Dwomor, Nkoranza North District Chief Executive, has urged Assembly Members to forge ahead in unity and co-ordinate ideas towards the development of their communities.

Mr Agyei-Dwomor was addressing the opening of a two-day orientation workshop for members of the District Assembly at Busunya in Brong-Ahafo. The programme was jointly organised by the Assembly and the Institute for Local Government Studies and was aimed at educating participants on their roles and responsibilities to enable them to perform to expectation.

“As Assembly Members you serve as a pivot around which the local government concept and the District Assembly system evolves, since you are the direct representatives of the people”, Mr Agyei-Dwomor said He urged the Assembly members to use their personal experiences and knowledge to support the management of the Assembly in the implementation of policies to move the district forward.

The DCE called on them to study the Model Standing Orders of the Assembly properly to be able to become fully abreast with the operational guidelines and instructions for their effective contributions at the Assembly’s meetings.

Mr Benjamin Adu Darko, former Presiding Member of the Assembly, who served as a resource person at the workshop, emphasized the need for the participants to regularly interact with their electorate to know their needs for the necessary attention.

He urged the participants to share ideas with unit committees, traditional authorities and opinion leaders in the communities for the sake of initiating programmes that would enhance the growth of their areas.

The ex-Presiding Member appealed to the Assembly Members to educate their people to honour their tax obligations to enable the Assembly to mobilize more resources to speed up the execution of development programmes.

Mr Abdul Rahaman, Nkoranza North District Coordinating Director, explained that the main role of Assembly Members was to promote the development of the district and advised them to be responsive to sub-committee meetings for a consensus decision and implementation by the Assembly.
