Assembly members must be patriotic

Half Assini (W/R) June 17, GNA – The Jomoro District Coordinating Director, Mr Yaw Adu Asamoah, has urged assembly members to place the development of their areas above their personal gains. Mr Asamoah, was closing a three-day orientation workshop for the 50-member Jomoro district Assembly, at Half Assini, in the Western Region, on Thursday. It was organised by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and the Institute of Local Government Studies in collaboration with the USAID and the French Embassy. It was aimed at building their capacities and their Information Management Systems.

Mr Asamoah commended the assembly members for the interest and seriousness they exhibited at the workshop and urged them to put lessons into practice.

Topics treated include, Resource Mobilization, Equitable Allocation of Resources at the Local Level, District Assembly Projects and Contacts Management.

He expressed the hope that the workshop had broadened their knowledge and capacity to perform creditably. Mr Francis Ehwie Armah, Presiding Member of the Assembly, urged the members to sensitize their people on the need to get involved in decision-making at the grass-roots. He reminded the members of the non-partisan nature of the Assembly concept and advised them to always unite towards the development of the district.

Miss Victoria Ocran, a participants in an interview with the GNA, described the workshop as beneficial because it had made her realised her commitment to her community and how to conduct herself at the Assembly.
