OMA embarks on massive school rehabilitation programme

Obuasi, June 17, GNA – The Obuasi Municipal Assembly (OMA), has embarked on a massive school rehabilitation programme aimed at restoring all dilapidated basic schools to promote effective teaching and learning in the municipality.

The Assembly is also constructing school blocks to eradicate the shift system in the area.

Already, rehabilitation works on four of the schools have been completed and handed over to the Municipal Education Directorate.

The schools are; a four-classroom block for Awurade Basa M/A JHS, six- classroom block for Boete M/A primary, seven- classroom block for Kwabrafoso M/A JHS and six- classroom block for Obuasi Presby JHS.

All the classrooms which cost the assembly over 300,000 Ghana cedis were provided with rumps to offer easy access to physically challenged persons.

Speaking at separate ceremonies, Mr. John Alexander Ackon, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), said the projects were funded from the assembly’s share of the common fund and its internally generated revenue.

He said the assembly was committed to eradicating the shift system in local schools and had therefore commissioned the construction of new schools at Boete and Anyinam.

“We are gradually eradicating shift system and the next place to tackle is the Independence schools at Brahabebome”, the MCE said.

Mr. Ackon appealed to headteachers take good care of the facilities since the assembly had invested huge sums of money in the facilities.

Mr. Johnny Owusu-Boadi, the Municipal Director of Education, wad grateful to the assembly for committing the chunk of its budget on education.

He said the key to national development was education and therefore appealed to all stakeholders to help improve school facilities in the municipality.

The assembly member for Bidieso, Ms Sabina Agyei appealed to the assembly to rehabilitate the Awurade Basa Primary School building.
