Court grants bail to student

Koforidua, June 17, GNA – A circuit court at Koforidua on Friday granted GH¢1,000 bail with one surety to Kwao Boakye, a 20-year-old student, for causing public nuisance and assaulting a teacher.

Boakye pleaded guilty with explanation but after his explanation the Presiding Judge, Mrs Barbara Tetteh Charway, entered a plea of not guilty for him.

He will re-appear on June 27.

Chief Inspector Moses Ayao, told the court that the complainant, is Isaac Henry Peprah, a teacher at Methodist Primary school and Boakye resides at Asokore a suburb of Koforidua.

He said the school compound for sometime now had been invaded by “wee” smokers and miscreants who smoke and defecate on the school compound.

Chief Insp. Ayao said all efforts by the school authorities to bring the situation under control proved futile.

The prosecution said on May 31 at about 0700 hours, when the complainant arrived at the school supervise the pupils to tidy up the compound he met Boakye defecating on the compound.

The prosecutor said when the complainant accosted Boakye, he became offended and assaulted him.

Chief Insp. Ayao said Boakye also hurled stones at the complainant, when he decided to go home and change his stained cloths.
