Kumasi, June 8, GNA – A team of health professionals from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) assisted by volunteer paramedics had offered free medical care to residents of Sawaba in Kumasi. About 1,500 people made up mostly of women and children were screened and given medication for malaria, typhoid and other diseases. Patients with complicated cases were referred to the KATH for further treatment.
The one-day exercise was organized by the Calvary Charismatic Centre (CCC) in response to an appeal for medical treatment for the people by Mr Anyaas Abdallah, Assembly Member for the area. Sawaba is malaria-endemic given its peculiar environmental sanitation challenges. Mr Abdallah told Ghana News Agency commended the Church for its contribution towards improving health of the people. He called on the residents to keep their surroundings tidy and destroy the breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
