Accra, June 6, GNA – Mr Joseph Kwesi Dzitse, President of the Youth Volunteers for the Environment (YVE), a non-governmental organisation has led students of the Salvation Army Cluster of Schools at Mamprobi to plant 150 trees.
The exercise was undertaken as part of activities to mark the World Environmental Day.
Briefing the Ghana News Agency after the exercise, Mr Dzitse said the students were educated on climate change and the environment.
He urged them to be good ambassadors of the environment by adopting the right attitudes.
“Trees are a very important part of human lives and are supposed to be given very good care and protection,” he said.
Mr Dzitse advised the school authorities to create space for tree planting.
Mr Lovans Owusu-Takyi, Director of YVE said tree planting was very important to help restore the forest and degraded soils, prevent erosion and facilitate sustainable fuel-wood for the livelihood of the people.
He asked the youth to take action to protect the environment by planting trees to stem the impact of climate change.
He said YVE would plant more than 10,000 trees in various school compounds in the Accra Metropolis this year.
Mr Martin Ampema, Circuit Supervisor of the Salvation Army Cluster of Schools, expressed gratitude to YVE for the exercise.
