Galamsey operator fined GHC 250

Tarkwa, June 5, GNA – A 26-year-old galamsey operator, Michael Koomson, has been fined 240 Ghana cedis by a Circuit Court at Tarkwa for unlawfully operating in Goldfields Ghana Limited Tarkwa Mine concession. He pleaded guilty.

Police Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the complaints were security officers of company.

Detective Amponsah said that on June 1, at about 0001 hours when the security officers were on patrol duty they spotted the accused person with his galamsey tools going to do operate at the Akontasi ridge pit area within the Goldfields concession.

The Prosecution said the accused person was arrested and handed over to the Police.
