GrassRootsAfrica Builds capacity of DULCCs

Bolgatanga June 2, GNA – GrassRootsAfrica, an NGO working to promote good governance, has organised a three-day capacity building workshop for Members of the District Unions of Local Civic Coalitions (DULCCs).

The workshop attracted the DULCCs members from the Bolgatanga Municipality, Bawku West, Talensi-Nabdam, Bongo and Kassena 96Nankana West Districts and was aimed at empowering them to be able to demand accountability from policy makers such as Assembly Members and District Chiefs Executives.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency after the programme, the Policy and Advocacy Officer of GrassRootsAfrica, Desmond Atambire Ayinne, explained that his outfit formed the DULCCs in March at the zonal and area councils in some Districts and it was therefore necessary to build their capacity so as to enable them complement the efforts of the District Assemblies to bring about development.

He said they would be introduced to the various Assemblies as Community Based Organizations (CBOs) and the assemblies would be expected to involve them in decision making and development issues.

“The LCC members in Nangodi, through radio programmes are able to advocate for the construction of speed rumps which has reduced the spate of road accidents in the area. The LCC members of the Shiega-Todongo hold interface meetings with the Talensi Nabdam District Health Directorate to address health issues”, he said.

The Capacity Building Officer of GrassRootsAfrica, Mr Kennedy Atinga Atulley, appealed to them to monitor ongoing government projects being undertaken in their communities and to report to the assembly any contractor who is not doing good work.
